TAKASHI MURAKAMI AT THE GUGGENHEIM BILBAO
As Japanese Pop Art master TAKASHI MURAKAMI’s retrospective “© Murakami” show continues on its epic world tour, the grandiose GUGGENHEIM BILBAO museum plays host to its latest and most daunting stop to date. Settling into the swooping Frank Gehry-skinned art palace, the show—fresh off its recent stop in Frankfurt, Germany—replicates its general outlay previously established at the initial MoCA LA, and Brooklyn Museum stops, but this time the artist’s epic painted and sculptural works are finally housed in a venue as aesthetically compelling as the whole of Murakami’s oeuvre

Bespoke Bikes
Bespoke is the new black – we’re living in a world where we can design anything we could ever possibly want exactly how we want it. Here are TCH, we’ve become bespoke gurus – from supercars to track shoes to mobile devices, we’ve been talking about custom design for as long as we can remember. For this latest installment of custom-made products, we’ve found some pretty cool brands that let you build your own bike.
In Los Angeles, James Perse provides a platform to build a custom vintage-style beach cruiser (pictured above) – a quintessentially Californian bicycle typically seen meandering along the Venice boardwalk and down through Santa Monica. The James Perse Cruiser, available in a variety of colors, is instantly recognizable with its fat tires, wide handlebars and soft, cushy saddle perfect for cruising along the beach with your surfboard in tow.
Republic Bike invites you to custom-build bicycles based on shared designs – choose from an array of colors for the frame, saddle, grips, chain, rims, tires and crank. Who says your front tire can’t be yellow, while your back tire is pink? Ever dreamed of having a blue bike frame with red handle grips and a white saddle? Republic can make this dream a reality on the Aristotle – a single-speed bicycle with a fixed/free hub. Typically a fixed gear bicycle does not allow a rider to coast at the rear cog continually spins. But Republic has made it possible to shift from fixed to free if coasting is your thing.
And finally, there’s a Japanese company called Pedalmafia, a place to build a 1/9 scale bicycle, the Pedal ID, not quite the bike to ride around town but cool nevertheless. The website allows you to choose practically every part of a fixed-gear bike in many different color combinations. Pedalmafia has also teamed up with Yamamoto, one of Japan’s largest toy/model makers, and provided the basic component set along with optional accessories to create the perfect bespoke bicycle.

Tod’s Canvas Sneaker
Better known for their high end moccasins racing shoes, Italian shoe maker Tod’s introduces this season their new canvas sneaker. The silhouette looks similar to the Lanvin low top sneaker and many other low top sneakers from high end fashion houses. Nevertheless we like their new model, which comes in canvas with suede detailing. Tod’s has always been a brand that one could rely on in terms of quality and style. With their sneaker line-up needing an update, this new style comes just at the right time.

Mike Tyson Documentary
“Tyson” is acclaimed indie director James Toback’s stylistically inventive portrait of a mesmerizing Mike Tyson. Toback allows Tyson to reveal himself without inhibition and with eloquence and a pervasive vulnerability. Through a mixture of original interviews and archival footage and photographs, a startlingly complex, fully-rounded human being emerges. The film ranges from Tyson’s earliest memories of growing up on the mean streets of Brooklyn through his entry into the world of boxing, to his rollercoaster ride in the funhouse of worldwide fame and fortunes won and lost. It is the story of a legendary and uniquely controversial international athletic icon, a figure conjuring radical questions of race and class. In its depiction of a man rising from the most debased circumstances to unlimited heights, destroyed by his own hubris, “Tyson” emerges as a modern day version of classic Greek tragedy.

Pink Floyd x Converse Chuck Taylor All-Stars
Taking inspiration from Pink Floyd’s iconic “The Dark Side of the Moon” album cover, Converse works up another Chuck Taylor rendition from their Classic Rock Series. The kicks feature an awesome black tonal colorway offset by a rainbow print wrapping around the heel and white accented print on the midsoles. Along with this makeup, Converse has worked up a Chuck Taylor low and Jack Purcell from “The Dark Side of the Moon” alongside an “Animals” and “Wish You Were Here” Chuck Taylor High.

Nike Sportswear “Stages” Sneakers featuring Mr. Cartoon, So Me & Futura
Lance Armstrong’s Livestrong campaign digs into Nike’s archives to resurrect some of their more sought after releases of all time for their “Stages” event that took place last night at Nike’s Montalbán Theater. Along with various other artistic pieces, several kicks were done up in the signature Livestrong black/yellow motif. Futura’s FLOM Dunk High, Mr. Cartoon’s Air Force 1 and Busy P/So Me’s Air Force 1 interpretation were amongst the standout pieces. Although they were made for charity, wouldn’t we all want to get our hands on at least one pair.
